I’ve alway’s wanted to be different. To be a genius, to stand out, or just be able to do something big. But I’m not famous nor do I really have the knowledge. I’m just average, but I know I can do more.

21, starring Jim Sturgess, Kevin Spacey, Kate Bosworth
I just watched the movie 21, which deals with the story of a group of MIT students who’d frequent the Sin City in order to count cards in the game of black jack; which in turn, they’d generate a whole lot of cash. It’s based on a true story about Jeff Ma, who is also one of the players of that MIT Black Jack team.
I’m not really going to elaborate on what happened in the story cause I’m not that much of a film critic. However, I like the way that it was presented. I mean, it was slow and simple at the beginning and then it went to building up the whole concept of gambling in Las Vegas with all the money and partying. Towards the end of the movie, it went back to Ben Campbell (the lead) narrating his story about his life experience that “dazzled” one of the heads of Harvard. The sudden transition at the end was just all too exciting for me; which left me wanting for more on what happened then. Of course, like every movie that wants you to expect some more, it cuts you before the thrill wears off.
I didn’t find the whole MTV Las Vegas theme as interesting as the story of how a single guy is coping with making ends meet. Aside from living everyday juggling studies and working, you have to think about the tragedy of the girl of your dreams not really having any interest in you. I can definitely relate to the story.
I don’t really care if the Ben didn’t use his head by saving his acquired money in different banks. I suspended the disbelief of the things that the characters could’ve done properly simply out of common sense. I’m not focusing more on the plot line. I’m just trying to just grasp the concept of living in a working class environment and trying to actually survive.
There was just a funny scene at the part where the lead and the lady were running away from the people chasing them, he removed his wig and his fake mustache. But he also messed his hair up in the process maybe because he wanted to look good while being hunted? hehe.
I’m just positioning myself in the guy’s shoes, how I wish I could be one; a genius I mean, who gets the education, career and most especially, the girl in the end. I mean, I don’t want to be perfect; I just wish I had the charm. In reality, no matter how hard I try, I seem to be just an average person.
Lastly, I like the song that was played at the ending after Ben narrated his story and asked “How’s that for life experience, professor? Did I dazzle you? Did I jump off the page?” The professor couldn’t speak cause he was startled, oh the look on his face, it was priceless. The camera then went back to Ben, grinning without overdoing.

You can’t always get what you want
You can’t always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you might find
You get what you need
