new phone

My new phone, not some cheap golf balls. Supposedly, I were to write an entry about how I got this cellphone and just for the record, I did create one. However, something happened with 3ix.com and one of their server maintenance that when I checked my entry, it was gone. F*ck.

I don’t know why I bought the phone when I didn’t even need to. I didn’t need a phone because I rely on my Nokia 1100 to answer my communication needs. Besides, I don’t text much so I find the idea quite a luxury already. Anyway, maybe because I was thinking too much come pay day because of the number of overtime ours that I rendered. However, when I checked my salary, I felt like a dumbass. Never expect, Edcel. Never expect, especially when it comes to money.Anyway, since I already promised Vince that I’d buy it, I stayed true to my word. So now I have this Sony Ericsson k550i; at least I got this as a bargain.

Redirect your Wordpress blog to your Domain

Posted by edcel in blog.

Finally! I was able to redirect my free Wordpress.com account to my Wordpress.org account! I’m just so happy that I’m able to do it. So if anybody who’ll type my previous blog (http://edcel.wordpress.com), it will be redirected to this site (http://edcel.net). It saves me the hassle of having to go through a lot of things just to update. Of course, if you want to get something here, it usually comes with a price. And for this, I spent around 10 bucks just to connect the two blogs. But I’m glad anyway because it makes my life a lot less complicated when it comes to updating and informing people about this new link.

In order for me to arrive at this stage, I simply searched for topics in google and stumbled upon this page: Wordpress.com to Wordpress.org. The link has a pdf file which talks about how to redirect your free wordpress blog to your hosted Wordpress account. In any case, here’s the pdf file.

But it wasn’t that smooth sailing for me because the pdf file discussed the process if your domain registrar (where you got your domain) is godaddy.com. As for me, godaddy isn’t where I got the edcel.net domain, because this domain came with the package I bought through my host which is 3ix.com. I tried looking for the settings in my control panel where I could change the nameserver. to the ones provided by Wordpress.

As you might wonder what I’m talking about, one of the requirements for you to be able to add your domain is you have to change the name of your DNS to: NS1.WORDPRESS.COM, NS2.WORDPRESS.COM and NS3.WORDPRESS.COM. The image below shows the error message I got when I tried to do that.

So I contacted the technical support of my host (3ix.com) and informed them about my issue. Since this is where I bought the name of this site, I asked them where I could change the nameserver. It turned out that my hosted blog’s Domain Name Server’s settings is from the backend which means I couldn’t configure it, they are the only ones who can access it. I gave them permission to change my default DNS to that of the ones indicated by Wordpress, and voila! it’s almost fixed!

There was only one thing for me to do to get rid of that error. That is to buy credits from Wordpress because you would have to pay for the service for redirecting. So I paid around 10 bucks using paypal and then followed the rest of the instructions of that pdf file. By the way, the redirecting service is good for one year which proves that the amount is really cheap.

Afterwards, I tried checking my site and typed my free Wordpress.com blog, and it redirected me to my domain which is edcel.net! At least with this, I won’t have a hard time informing other people to update their links as it will just redirect to my site. Sigh, I’m not much of a technical person, but I’m glad I was able to figure this out with the help of good people out there.

3ix.com: edcel.net begins

I’m so tired right now because of how many hours of facing this monitor. I’ve been working my way into building this site properly, the way I want to see it. However, I’ve had a bad time initially when I bought the site.

For a non-technical person like me, I really had a hard time learning the ropes in creating this site. I bought a domain at 3ix.com since that’s what a colleague at work used. I bought the cheapest package because I don’t think this blogsite would consume that much space as I also have another site. This is more of a place for my own silent rantings. Anyway, like I said, I had a bit of a time.

I was happy when I was able to buy my own domain and host in 3ix.com (I didn’t know what one would need at first in order to have a site) rather than have a free blog account. When everything went through (my credit card payment and the welcome email), I couldn’t hide the excitement.

However, because I was too excited, I didn’t know what to expect. I thought there’d be such a simple step by step process in order to come up with this page. I was wrong, well at least with the hosting package that I got. I didn’t even get any phone help cause the company doesn’t have one for technical issues. Hence, I just proceeded to using their Live Chat Support; which wasn’t that pleasant the first couple of interactions. The agents were a bit fast in delivering their spiels, thinking that I know how to set up this site. I admit that I’m not a technical person, I just want to learn in the process. But I just didn’t like the way they assumed that anybody who signs up for a hosting account. I should know since I’ve done I face customer and technical service interactions almost everyday as that’s my line of job.

But the third time that I was able to talk to a 3ix representative, I was able to get bit of an idea where to go and what to do. I figured I just have to use my searching skills in finding valid information in forums and other blogs.

So this is it, from edcel.wordpress.com to edcel.net . I’m still happy with what I’ve attained despite the many moments that I wanted to give up this page. But I said to myself that I have to go through with this for my added knowledge as there’s no use quitting since I’m not that much of a coward; at least to some extent.
