Ipod Touch 3rd Generation or 4th Generation? This was what I wanted to know when I received my new HSBC credit card.
I was so happy when I had my HSBC credit card approved as this was one of the banks that I really wished to get an account from. When the opportunity came to apply for one, I immediately grabbed it and after about a couple of weeks, I got a letter containing my Mabuhay Miles card.
After scanning through the contents of the envelope, I found a piece of paper which was actually a Claim Voucher for their new promotional item: an iPod Touch.
I completely forgot about the items that come with a new HSBC credit card application approval. That’s why I was really glad that I can get a freebie or a discount for the iPod Touch.
Here’s the information that I got through the HSBC website:

The HSBC iPod Touch promo already has a 20 percent discount and is payable within 24 months. This was already a good deal for me. Little did I know that the marketing strategy is only good for the older generation of the iPod Touch – which is the 3rd Gen.
I’m from Cebu and the letter said that the only accredit store to claim this item are Power MAC Center shops. The only problem is that this is only available in Manila as there’s no Power Mac Center in Cebu (yet). The other options is to have it delivered to my house with a minimal fee.
I called the HSBC hotline and spoke with a rep to clarify the promotion. I forgot the name of the customer service agent and I was told that I could just claim the iPod Touch at any of the two HSBC branches here in Cebu as the stocks are delivered there. I also clarified what generation of the iPod Touch is the promo good for. It was confirmed that it’s only the 3rd GEN which is a total bummer.

You may wonder what’s the difference between the 3rd generation and the 4th generation. You can check out other websites for the difference but the main factor that really stood out is that the iPod 4th gen has both a camera on the front and the back which is ideal for FaceTime – a feature which enables you to video conference over WiFi – as well as taking quick snapshots of anything.
The 4th Gen iPod touch was released last September 2010 and iStores here in the Philippines have the latest model on display. So I was really hoping that this was the one that came packaged with their promotion. I was also scouting for more information online and there were people who said that we can avail the 4th Gen using this; others said that it’s just the older model.
The agent told me that if I wanted to get the newer version, it would not come with the 20 percent discount anymore. I also called both branches here in Cebu and they confirmed the same information that was provided by the hotline rep. I still have until January 31, 2011 to decide if I want to take advantage of the promotion. But given the circumstances, I might just scrape the idea altogether. Oh well, I guess I just got excited too soon.
